SUBSCRIPTION BOX REVIEW- Summer Love Box from Sarang Box

I have recently discovered the fascinating world of Korean Beauty products. There are so many different types of products and masks that it can get a bit overwhelming, especially if you're like me and don't read Korean! If you're looking to try out K-Beauty products, or if you're already a K-Beauty fan then the Sarang Box is for you! This box was filled to the brim with some of the best K-Beauty products. A huge THANK YOU to the Sarang Team for sending me this box to review!! You can get your K-Beauty fix in many ways by checking out the different subscription options on the Sarang Box website. Keep reading to see what was in the Summer Love Box!

There were many different sheet masks in the box. I was excited to try the Jellyfish and Pearl masks from Skinfood the most. There was also Tony Moly nose strips, toner, emulsion and Black Sugar honey mask from Skinfood.  I was intrigued by the Berrisom Lip Tint Pack. I have never heard of lip tint before and I liked how effective these were at making my lips look more red than the already were. I didn't like the fragrance though :( It took a few tries to get the hang of applying the gel on my lips. I was pleased that the tint looked pretty but the effect wasn't long lasting.

My favourite items were the honey masks. My skin gets so dry when I'm in air conditioning for too long and I really appreciate how moisturizing these masks were.

I rate the Sarang Summer Love box 5/5!

This box costs $50 and is worth every penny!

My First Time Using YLLO Turmeric Scrub

There's nothing better than a cosmetic company that has a good product and stands for a good cause. I got the chance to try the YLLO turmeric scrub and I'm super stoked to share this amazing brand with you! A huge thanks to the YLLO team for sending me this product to review :)

First and foremost I'd like to share why the YLLO brand is helping make a difference.

YLLO donates 10% of every scrub sold towards the different charities that are member partners of How does this contribution help?
  • Empowering girls to develop vocational training and skills that are developed in a group environment reducing vulnerability and isolation
  • Targeting communities and their leaders to educate and raise awareness about the adverse effects of child marriages
  • Advocating governments to change legislation in order to raise the minimum legal age to be married
  • Helping activists set up youth groups to share their experiences and by exchanging dialogue with community leaders
How awesome is that? That's a cause I can get behind!! I was so excited to try this mask. I opened the package right away!

This is a "mix yourself" mask and I liked being in control of the consistency. After I mixed the powder with water, I painted it on my face with my masking brush. I didn't like the smell and if you're not a fan of curry, or curried food, I recommend you STAY AWAY from this product LOL! After a few seconds I felt a slight tingle. I don't have sensitive skin so I was surprised that my skin responded so quickly. After relaxing for 20 minutes I rinsed off the mask to reveal a rash on my face! OMG WHAT! Yup. I had a reaction to an ingredient in the mask. My fault for not doing a patch test. OOPSIES!!! Learn from my mistake and ALWAYS do a patch test when dealing with any new ingredients you aren't familiar with.  I wasn't worried though. I've had rashes from masks before and they usually go away in a few hours. The next morning my rash was gone and my skin was super smooth. I was right, just a little reaction to something my skin wasn't used to. I'm pleased with the results, but not getting the rash would have made the experience more pleasant for sure!!

Have you tried turmeric masks before? Let me know your thoughts, I'd love to hear from you!

My First Time Using Beauty Stones Green Tea Facial Mask

What a joy it is to relax at home! After a long day at work I love being able to grab a mask, a glass of wine, and read a book in silence. Yesterday I treated myself to a mini facial with the Green Tea Facial Mask from Beauty Stones. A huge THANK YOU to the Beauty Stones team for sending me this mask for review.

There are lots of interesting products on the Beauty Stones website and I like that you can see the prices in different currencies. I find it sometimes difficult to determine how much a product really is because most websites don't display prices in Canadian Dollars.

The Green Tea mask contains:

  • Green tea extract combats acne and unwanted blemishes
  • Hyaluronic acid replenishes the moisture your skin lost
  • Antioxidants reach deep into pores to reinvigorates, soothes, and conditions tired, irritated skin
  • Evens the skin tone and reduce inflammation for a healthy glow
I liked the fibre sheet compared to the traditional sheet mask materials. Sure, it looked like I had saggy old lady skin, but I felt like my skin absorbed more of the serum with the fibre sheet. My first impression after opening the packet was how soft the fibre mask was. I thought the eye holes were too small and I was worried that I was going to get serum in my eyes! Even though the eye holes were small, I didn't mind that the mask covered every inch of under eye area and went past my eyebrows. The serum was gentle enough that it didn't cause any irritation. Luckily I didn't get any serum in my eyes and the small holes weren't too uncomfortable. The mask was supposed to stay on for 20-30 minutes, but it felt good so I took a little snooze! When I woke up the fibre mask was dry and the serum was completely absorbed into my skin. It felt incredibly smooth! I'm happy to include Beauty Stones masks in my regular masking routine :)

My First Time using Mona Botanicals

Once in a while I like to use a good sugar scrub to get all the dead skin that regular cleansing sometimes missed. I prefer all natural body scrubs and I feel like my skin (my legs in particular) respond better to products that don't contain harsh chemicals. Yesterday, I pampered my skin with these amazing products from Mona Botanicals. A huge THANK YOU to the Mona Botanicals team for sending me these products to review. I tried the blood orange coconut body scrub, rose neroli face oil, and face mist.

I love the fragrance of the face oil and face mist. Scented with therapeutic essential oils of Bulgarian Rose Otto and Egyptian Neroli, they are light, sweet and floral. HEAVENLY!

I can't tell you enough how much I love the sugar scrub. I started with a nice warm bath and exfoliated my skin with the body scrub. This isn't just your average scrub! The oils made the formula so rich and easy to spread. I don't like when scrubs feel like my skin is getting buffed with sandpaper, but this scrub felt really nice and my skin just drank in all the moisture! To my surprise I didn't even need to use lotion after my bath. My skin felt so supple and moisturized, even until the next day!

I was very impressed with this brand and the ingredients that are used. I was surprised to learn that the items are handmade and I appreciate that organic, toxin free ingredients go into every product.

My favourite product, the blood orange coconut body scrub only has ingredients you can actually pronounce like:

Organic raw sugar, Organic brown sugar, Organic virgin coconut oil, Organic vanilla beans, Organic cardamom, Organic cinnamon sticks, Organic blood orange essential oil

How awesome is that?!

There are so many awesome products that I'd really love to include in my daily skin care routine. Take a look at the Mona Etsy page at if you want to learn more.

What's your favourite body scrub? I'd love to hear from you!

August 2016 Ipsy Glam Bag Review

My current makeup subscription box is from Ipsy. I was a bit skeptical about a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box because I didn't want to end up with a bunch of products I couldn't use or didn't know how to use. Each month you get full size or deluxe-sized products in a cute makeup bag, and I was sold after checking out their previous bags. If you're not very adventurous with makeup like me, it's a great way to build your makeup collection on the cheap and expand your makeup expertise!

The August Ipsy Glam Bag theme was Sugar Highness. I really liked the design of the bag this month. My bag design reminded me of a mermaid character with turquoise hair. I liked that Ipsy did something a little different with this design.

I was not pleased with every item in my bag which was a strange feeling for me because I'm usually impressed with my Glam Bags.

In my bag:

Marc Anthony Hair Conditioning treatment
Trust Fund Beauty Liquid Lipstick in K, Bye
Formula X nail polish in Dollface
Neogen Code 9 Tightening Pack
NYX Liquid Illuminator

While I'm happy to get a wide range of products, I was a bit disappointed to get another Marc Anthony hair product.

I rate the August Ipsy Glam Bag 3/5!

The product I was most excited about was the Neogen Tightening Pack. I've never heard of this brand before so I was happy to try something new, and OF COURSE I've been all about skin care these days! THANK YOU IPSY!!

Click here to sign up with Ipsy and get your very own Glam Bag!

More about the products inside:

Marc Anthony Hair Conditioning treatment- As much as I like Marc Anthony products, it would have been nice to get something different. I did like the results, don't get me wrong! I'm a huge fan of Argan oil especially since I have very dry and damaged hair. If you haven't tried Marc Anthony hair care, you should definitely check it out!

Trust Fund Beauty Liquid Lipstick in K, Bye- UGH! What a disappointment this colour was. It was all wrong! I looked like a crackhead because the colour was too light :( No thanks Ipsy!! It wasn't TOTALLY bad though. I did like the formula. The liquid lipstick went on smooth and stayed put. Too bad it looked terrible on me! It did look nice on my Asian friend there's that...

Formula X nail polish in Dollface- This was my first experience with Formula X nail polish. I liked how smooth it went on my nails. The colour looked nice and I'm a huge fan of nude polish. I LIKEY!

Neogen Code 9 Tightening Pack- Oh fave item in my bag this month. My skin felt so smooth and refreshed after using this mask. I'm definitely going to buy more!! Stay tuned for a full review of this tightening pack!

NYX Liquid Illuminator- I'm on the fence with this product. As much as I want to love NYX just like everyone else, I just can't get over how easily it flaked off when I swatched it. Maybe it would stay put when I use it on my face with makeup. I dunno. I did like the colour. I was very very pretty. I'm just not a fan of the formula.

What did you get in your August Glam Bag? I'd love to hear from you!

My First Time using Botica Bliss bath tea

Who doesn't love relaxing in a nice warm bath?!? I sure do! It really is one of the only times I get to recharge and literally not do a darn thing!! haha! I love bubble baths, bath salts, and bath bombs but I was recently intrigued with the Botica Bliss bath teas that I just had to try it! If you're not sure what a bath tea is, it's pretty much exactly like it sounds. The natural organic blend goes into a reusable muslin bag and steeps your bath water just like you would steep a cup of tea to drink. How fun does that sound?

I was sent the BB No.2 Tranquil Nights bath tea from the amazing Botica Bliss team (thanks guys!) and I'm so happy to share this amazing company with you! There are currently three varieties of bath teas and they all look divine! I liked that the bath tea kit came with the organic muslin bag and wooden spoon, which made it easy for me to measure the perfect amount of tea to put in the bag.

I felt refreshed after soaking for just 15 minutes. My skin felt soft and I enjoyed the aroma the tea created very very much. It was the perfect time for me to breathe deeply and take it all in. The formula was so decadent (when is smell-o-vision going to be invented?!?!)

BB No.2 Tranquil Nights promotes a restful and peaceful sleep. It has:

Calendula flowers: Key actions- tissue healer, anti-inflammatory.
Lavender flowers: Key actions- relaxing, aromatic, anti-depressant.
Jasmine buds:  Key actions- anti-depressant, antiseptic, anti-spasmodic.
Chamomile flowers: Key actions- relaxing, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic
Bicarbonate soda: Key actions- soothes, detoxify, alkalize your body, soften dry skin.

This bath tea was also gentle enough for my kids to enjoy. They thought it was funny to have a bath in tea! I recommend trying a tea bath if you're looking for something different than your regular relaxing bath products. If you would like to learn more about Botica Bliss, visit their website at

My first time using Flying Wild

My current skin care obsession that I'd like to share with you is the Flying Wild skin care line. Their products are made from pure organic non-toxic ingredients and I was immediately drawn to their philosophy of simplicity. There's just so much chemicals and harmful additives in almost everything we use and eat, and it's refreshing to find companies that actually care about what we put on our skin.

I got to try the body balm, foot balm, hand balm and rosemary lip balm (Thanks Flying Wild team!) and I am so impressed with the results.

My favourite product is the body balm. I wish I had smell-o-vision so you could smell how delicious this balm is! It's a bit gooey when it comes out of the bottle and it took a bit of work to spread on the skin. Even though the body balm didn't spread as well as I would have liked, the extra effort was well worth it. My skin felt super soft! I was very surprised that the strong scent that it had when coming out of the bottle was very subtle after I rubbed it in. I liked to use the body balm after an evening shower and my skin still felt smooth the next day! I was very happy about that :)

The rosemary lip balm was a bit strange to me at first. I have never used lip balm with rosemary in it and I wasn't sure if I liked it. After using it, I noticed my lips were actually much softer than when I use commercial lip balms.

The hand balm and foot balm both had a wonderful fragrance. I did notice that the balms filled in the little cracks in my hands and feet and the moisture lasted all day! If you have really dry hands and feet like I do, I suggest you check these balms out for yourself!

I loved reading about the ingredients they use and most importantly, the ingredients they DON'T use.

Below is a list of common personal care ingredients they recommend that you avoid, and their suspected impact on your health. You will never find any of these in Flying Wild products.

  • DMDM hydantoin and Imidazolidinyl urea - Toxic contaminants
  • Synthetic Fragrance and Dyes - Allergies, cancer, nervous system
  • Methylchloroisothiazolinone and Methylisothiazolinone - Allergies, nervous system
  • Parabens or "-paraben" - Hormone effects
  • "PEG" and "-eth" - Toxic contaminants
  • Sodium lauryl or laureth sulfate - Skin damage, toxic contaminants
  • Triclosan and triclocarban - Thyroid and environmental concerns
  • Triethanolamine (TEA) - Allergies, toxic contaminants

Matcha Egg White and Honey Mask

It's Sunday facial mask time again!! I'm excited to share with you my new favourite recipe that has (of course!) HONEY! My face feels super soft and nourished after I use a honey mask and I noticed my skin looks a bit brighter. If you haven't used honey in your homemade mask, you should definitely try it! Here's my recipe for a Matcha green tea, egg white and honey mask that I hope you enjoy as much as I do :) After mixing the ingredients I put it on my face and sat for 20 minutes. I could really feel the egg whites tightening my skin after ten minutes. After rinsing, my face felt smooth and looked great!

I used:

Matcha powder- reduces inflammation, evens skin tone

honey- antibacterial, soothes, moisturizes

egg whites- helps tighten pores, lifts skin

I really liked using the matcha powder rather than brewed green tea because I didn't have to wait for the hot tea to cool before I could use it.

I know green tea is a powerhouse ingredient that everyone should be sipping on daily, but I had no idea matcha green tea had so many topical benefits!

Matcha is particularly good for acne because it has the ability to decrease sebum production. It is also known for being an energy booster, so it can stimulate and rejuvenate skin cells. How amazing is that?!?

I found it easier to use my masking brush to mix the honey and matcha powder first. I added the egg whites slowly since the mixture was super thick. You can add more egg whites if you want a thinner paste. I used my masking brush to apply the mask to my face, but you could use your fingers. I liked the control I got when I used the brush and I was able to get the mixture in the hard to reach places like the corner of my nose and right under my eyes.

Let me know what you think of my matcha, egg white and honey mask recipe! I'd love to hear from you!

My First Time using NNNY Skincare

I've always been a simple girl with simple skincare and makeup routines. I used what was on sale at my local Shoppers Drug Mart and didn't spend much time at all researching what was better and what was actually healthier for my skin. This journey has been so wonderful for me because the best part of my day is being able to share my experiences with you. Today I'm so excited to tell you about NNNY skincare. If you're like me, you have probably never heard much about Japanese skincare, or knew about the whole other world of Japanese beauty products and beauty companies.

I was sent the entire range of NNNY skincare products to test and share my review (thanks NNNY team!)

I tried the Nano Mist, Nano Whiteen Cream, Facial Soap bar, Massage Cream Facial mask, and Body Firming Gel. I first fell in love with the delightful scent of each product. I couldn't wait to try them all!

Nano Mist- I really liked the formula of this mist. I got a nice dewy glow and felt like it set my makeup really nicely. The light, but concentrated formula is rich in ceramides to make skin feel velvety smooth and soft. Evening Primrose helps to ease skin irritations.  It smells great and really helped keep my face moisturized.

Nano Whiteen Cream- This lightweight cream was very luxurious and is my favourite product in the NNNY lineup. It is a 5 in 1 product that replaced my moisturizer, brightener, toner, lotion, and eye cream. It works great under makeup and really made my skin feel smooth. After using this product, I felt like my face was the perfect canvass for my makeup routine.

Facial Soap bar- I was very surprised with the rich lather this soap created. I put a tiny bit of water on the soap and rubbed the mesh rag that came with it over the soap. I created a huge amount of foam just from rubbing the mesh for a few seconds. A tiny bit definitely went a long way. I didn't like the "squeaky clean" feeling after washing my face with this soap though, but I wasn't left feeling "stripped" at all. I truly felt cleansed.

Massage Cream Facial mask- I used this product right before bed and my face was the smoothest it's ever been when I woke up.  That might have been due to the Yuzu Lemon Extract which is similar to the function of ceramides in the skin and helps protect skin from environmental damage. Skin calming Azulene and Chamomile Extract help prevent and soothe skin inflammation and redness while also brightening skin tone. I felt hydrated and my skin even looked a bit brighter in the morning. I love this cream so so much.

Body Firming Gel- I have never used a body gel before so I wasn't sure what to expect. It felt a bit like rubbing water on your skin and I was surprised with how soft and supple my skin felt after using this. My skin just felt like the way skin is supposed to feel- nourished, supple and baby-like. This gel contains caffeine and guarana seed extract that are natural energizers to help stimulate circulation which, in turn, promotes skin detoxification. Glycyrrhizin from Natural Licorice helps release water retention to slim and smooth the skin tissue.

I'm very impressed with the NNNY product lineup. I wish I found out about Japanese skin care sooner!! There are so many amazing ingredients in the products- many of them I have never heard about. I found an awesome list of ingredients on the NNNY website and if you're curious check it out:

My First Time using The Inkey List Kaolin Clay Mask

When you live in the city, it’s easy to miss how much dust actually stays on your skin...especially if you live around a construction z...
