July 2017 Ipsy Glam Bag Review

My current makeup subscription box is from Ipsy. I was a bit skeptical about a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box because I didn't want to end up with a bunch of products I couldn't use or didn't know how to use. Each month you get full size or deluxe-sized products in a cute makeup bag, and I was sold after checking out their previous bags. If you're not very adventurous with makeup like me, it's a great way to build your makeup collection on the cheap and expand your makeup expertise!

The July 2017 glam bag theme is Over Easy and marks the first time that Ipsy has done a collab with Gudetama. Over Easy is dedicated to lazy summer days and I can totally relate to this super cute and lazy egg! I must admit, I'm not always up to speed on certain trends so I had no idea what Gudetama was and why this cartoon egg was so darn cute! I was surprised to learn that the Gudetama character is a Japanese mascot like Hello Kitty, but has chronic depression. I love that type of tongue-in-cheek humour! Gudetama is the antihero nobody knew they needed or expected to fall in love with. I understood why Gudetama would be a great fit for a lazy summer theme and I don't know about you, but there are some days I feel like this grumpy egg that was cracked too early on the wrong side of the shell! (If you live in Toronto you know what I mean...this weather has been just 💔

In my bag:
Ciate Wonderwand in Black
Londontown Lakur nail polish
Tarte Rainforest of the Sea deep dive cleansing gel
Hempz lip balm
Bella Pierre Cosmetics banana setting powder

I'm happy to see Tarte in my glam bag and I was most excited about the Bella Pierre setting powder since I don't usually use setting powder as part of my makeup routine. I'm not sure what the Ipsy bag was made of, but I wasn't a fan of the "plastic-y" smell. Thankfully the goodies inside were odour-free! I rate the July Ipsy Glam Bag a 4/5.

More about the products inside:

Ciate London Wonderwand- Eyeliner has been the one thing I mastered at an early age and I think it's safe to say that black eyeliner is a staple in many makeup bags. I go though "moods" when it comes to eyeliner- some days I swear by felt tip liner, other days I love pencils. One thing's for sure, the Wonderwand offers the best of both worlds! If you're like me and you like products that are versatile, then the Ciate London Wonderwand will be a game changer for you. The gel kohl formula is super pigmented and the blending/smudging brush gives you the ability to create a multitude of makeup looks.

Londontown Lakur nail polish- I'm really over the whole "millennium pink" obsession so I wasn't pleased with the colour. I was very impressed with the creamy formula and I'd love to find this brand in stores so I can see what other colours are available. It spread well and offered a ton of coverage with just one coat. Even without a top coat my nails were shiny and smooth. I love vegan and cruelty-free brands and this was one brand I'd love to see more of!

Tarte Rainforest of the Sea deep dive cleansing gel- I like gel cleansers that leave my skin feeling squeaky clean but not stripped and this Tarte cleanser did a fantastic job. I used this after taking off makeup and noticed that there were no traces of the makeup left behind. There wasn't enough in the sample bottle for me to see how my skin responds over time, but my first impression was a positive one! The gel cleanser didn't make much of a lather, and a little bit went a long way. I can see what all the hype is about now :)

Hempz lip balm- To say that this lip balm is moisturizing would be an understatement! It went on smooth and my lips were left soft and supple like never before. It smells (and tastes) so yummy too! I consider myself some sort of a lip balm connoisseur and trust me when I say that the Hempz lip balm is a must try!! What I love most about this product is that I didn't feel dry when the lip balm wore off. That's my biggest pet peeve with some lip balms. PRO TIP- I always apply lip balm as part of my nightly skin care routine. I wake up with nourished skin and lips every morning!

Bella Pierre Cosmetics banana setting powder- This yellow powder did a fantastic job of colour correcting dark circles and redness. I tend to get shiny in certain places so having this powder was a great way to stay matte. I do find loose powders to be a bit messy, but once I get the hang of it I'm sure I'll make less mess. I was also impressed that I got a decent sized sample so I have the chance to figure out if I really want to add this to my beauty routine. Thanks Ipsy!

What did you get in your July Glam Bag? I'd love to hear from you!
