May 2018 Boxycharm Review

After being a loyal subscriber to Ipsy for over two years, I decided it was time to give another makeup subscription box a chance. Boxycharm is similar to Ipsy. Each month you get full size or deluxe-sized products delivered right to your door, and I was sold after checking out their previous boxes. If you're not very adventurous with makeup like me, it's a great way to build your makeup collection on the cheap and expand your makeup expertise!

The May 2018 Boxycharm theme was Boxy Bash and I'm a bit underwhelmed with my box this month. I know, I know...it wouldn't be possible for Boxycharm to have outstanding boxes each and every month, so I suppose I knew a subpar box would be inevitable. It really is such a treat to get high quality items at an affordable price, but I'm finding a lot of repetition with certain products. I shouldn't complain...

In my box:

PÜR Sculptor palette
CoverFX blurring primer
Aesthetica pro brush series
Aesthetica P12 face brush
Beauty Creations matte lipgloss
Pretty Vulgar gel eye liner

I'm so happy to try the Pretty Vulgar gel eyeliner and everything else is a bonus! I rate the May Boxycharm box a 3/5.

More about the products inside:

PÜR Sculptor palette- If you've been following along you know by now that I don't wear makeup often, and when I do it's usually a "barely there" look. That's why this sculptor palette doesn't appeal to me BUT I do love the highlighter shades. I'm a huge sucker for highlight so I'm happy to have 2 new shades to work with. These formulas are buttery and blend so well.

CoverFX blurring primer- There are some days I just wear primer over my moisturizer and I gotta tell you, CoverFX hits it out of the park with this one! This primer offers a velvety finish that's perfect on its own, but sets the stage for your makeup to sit perfectly on your face. This is a new must have in my makeup bag.

Aesthetica pro brush series- I've gotten so many brushes I really don't even know what to do with them all! This trio comes with a eyebrow spoolie brush, fine tipped eyeliner brush, and an angled eyeliner brush. You can create so many eye looks with these brushes and the quality is impressive.

Aesthetica P12 face brush- I was surprised with how soft this face brush was. The synthetic fibres make this brush perfect for blending your makeup perfectly. I really didn't need four brushes in one box, but who am I to complain since you can never have too many makeup brushes right?!

Beauty Creations matte lipgloss- I was very happy to get a fun and bright colour for summer and the Beauty Creations matte lipgloss was creamy and nourishing. I love the formula of this lipgloss. The finish wasn't too drying and I was impressed with how long lasting it was. I will definitely repurchase this product!

Pretty Vulgar gel eye liner- When I saw the spoiler for this item on Instagram I was excited to see what this gel liner was all about, after all, I'm a simple person and I stick with what works. Have you ever noticed how hard it is to get out of your comfort zone? My pencil eyeliner or felt tip pen are my usual go-to products and I'm still in awe that Boxycharm was able to include this full size gel liner in every box. Creamy is a word that doesn't even do this gel liner justice. I loved how smooth this product was on my lids and I'm grateful to step out of my comfort zone once in a while with this gel liner.

As much as I love my monthly box, the May box is my lowest ranking box from Boxycharm so far this year :( Do you subscribe to any beauty boxes? Which ones are your faves? I'd love to hear from you!

May 2018 Ipsy Glam Bag Review

I have been an Ipsy subscriber for over two years, and at first I was a bit skeptical about a monthly beauty and makeup subscription box because I didn't want to end up with a bunch of products I couldn't use or didn't know how to use. Each month you get full size or deluxe-sized products in a cute makeup bag, and I was sold after checking out their previous bags. If you're not very adventurous with makeup like me, it's a great way to build your makeup collection on the cheap and expand your makeup expertise!

The May 2018 glam bag theme was Go There and my inner skin care fiend was screaming when I saw the selection of products for the month. Many moons ago, I would have complained that I got 3 skin care products in one glam bag, but now I'm thrilled. I love travel themes (even though I don't travel that often) so I look longingly at the May bag for encouragement that one day I'll take this cute clutch on my travels.

In my bag:
Adesse New York gel effect nail polish in Oh, Cabana Boy
Nomad Cosmetics eyeshadow in Cohíba
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair hydrating serum
Aphrodite Olive Oil face scrub
M.A.D Skincare cleansing gel

This was the first time I've seen something from Aphrodite, and as always, I love seeing First Aid Beauty products in my bag. I rate the May Ipsy Glam Bag a 4/5!

More about the products inside:

Adesse New York  gel effect nail polish in Oh, Cabana Boy- I really like Adesse nail products and I'm happy to have a new shade of blue for spring and summer. I find Adesse colours to last long and leave my nails nourished. I like that this product is non-toxic so I feel safe knowing my daughter can use this colour as well. I'm a huge fan of gel nail polishes because I like my nails to look as fresh as possible between salon visits. Now I can achieve a gel-like mani at home. Yay!

Nomad Cosmetics eyeshadow in Cohíba- I'm not the biggest fan of single eyeshadows but I do love this shade. Cohíba is a beautiful golden bronze colour that matches perfectly with my skin tone that I might use it as a bronzer. It's creamy and blendable so it can be used in many ways. Multi-use products are always nice to have, especially when I want to pack light. This formula looks so nice when it's blended out, I'm impressed!

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair hydrating serum- My obsession with First Aid Beauty continues with this serum. It's made with hyaluronic acid, aloe leaf juice, colloidal oatmeal and collagen so you know you're getting skin loving ingredients with every drop. This product absorbed well and was super lightweight. My skin felt nourished after using this product and I'll definitely repurchase.

Aphrodite Olive Oil face scrub- I love scrubs that don't have microbeads and this scrub is made from ground almond and olive seeds. At first I thought this scrub might be a bit harsh but I was pleasantly surprised. After exfoliating with this scrub I felt clean but not too squeaky clean like my skin was stripped.

M.A.D. Skincare cleansing gel- I wasn't familiar with the M.A.D. Skincare brand but I'm happy I got the chance to try it. I was surprised at how bubbly this gel got and I really felt that all my makeup and dirt from the day was being washed away.  You only need a small amount to get the job done so this sample will go a long way.

I was happy with the May glam bag and can't wait to see what June has in store! Tell me...did you get the May Ipsy bag? I'd love to hear from you!

AFFORDABLE BEAUTY- Pixi Beauty

Skin care and beauty products don't have to break the bank, so I'd like to offer up the second entry in my AFFORDABLE BEAUTY series ❤❤❤

It's no secret that I have a weakness when it comes to makeup and skin care products. I have the hardest time not checking out the beauty section in stores and Lord help me if there's a sale! Beauty products don't always have to be expensive to be effective and some of my favourite beauty finds are from one of my favourite stores-Shoppers Drug Mart.

As someone that doesn't wear makeup every day, I have a hard time splurging on products that I know will most likely expire before I get the chance to use it up. Thats's why I looooove sample sized products and don't mind splurging on affordable products that I know compete with high end brands. Pixi Beauty is a brand that meets all my needs and I was lucky enough to try some of their newest products. A huge thanks to the Pixi team for sending me these products to review :)

You can find some of the Pixi Beauty products at your local Shoppers Drug Mart and thankfully, my new favourite eye liner- the Endless Silky Eye Pen is one of the products you can find.

I've swatched four colours here, but you can find 22 different shades on the Pixi Beauty website. Silky is an understatement when it comes to these pens and I've never used an eyeliner that glides across your lids quite like this. Once dry, this product is waterproof and smudge proof while offering an intense long lasting colour. Even though this liner dries to a no-budge finish, you can create a smokey eye look by blending before it dries.

A word of caution, since the formula of this pen is really silky, keep it in a cool dry place so the tip doesn't get too soft. You can even pop this pen in your fridge a few minutes before using to stiffen it up.

I've used many products from Pixi Beauty and I love how versatile their products are. Not only am I obsessed with the results every time I use Pixi products, I love that the brand is affordable. I recommend Pixi Beauty for anyone looking for an affordable beauty brand that delivers great results.

Have you tried any products from Pixi Beauty? Let me know your faves in the comments!
