For the longest time I was in love with the Clean and Clear Morning Burst Scrub. The bursting beads really made my skin feel so much softer, and my skin was in the best condition it ever was. It turns out that since this product contains tiny plastic microbeads called polyethylene beads, it will no longer be produced. The scoop is, these little beads are not filtered properly during sewage treatment and have the potential to harm marine life (major booooooo!) So, now that my favourite scrub is banned in my country, I was a very very happy camper when I was sent the Amber Glow scrub from the Glowmedica team.
I used the Timeless Glow Mask after using the exfoliant for a double whammy treatment and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. The smell was very nice, but a bit too strong for me. I prefer a much more subtle scent, but that didn't take away from the experience at all. I felt like I treated myself to a mini facial at home after using these products. I highly recommend checking out Glowmedica and their entire line of products! It feels nice to finally find a worthy replacement for my favourite scrub that's so much better in more ways than one!
If you're curious about what makes Glowmedica so amazing, check out this ingredient list I found on their website:
Amber Granules | Pinus succinifera
Amber is a fossilized resin coming from forests of
Pinus succinifera, a Jurassic European conifer tree. It is used as a natural physical exfoliating agent, and accelerates skin desquamation and improves cell oxygenation to improve skin appearance. Its size and smoothly rounded shape make it suitable for mild face exfoliation as well as body use. |
Antarcticine® | Pseudoalteromonas antarctica
Antarcticine® is a glycoprotein sourced from the Antarctic
Ocean that protects the skin from dryness. It stimulates the formation of collagen I and IV as well as elastin, restructuring the skin so that it looks smoother while the depth of wrinkles decreases. |
Bisabolol
Anti-irritant typically extracted from chamomile. Bisabolol reduces
pro-inflammatory cytokine production and ameliorates skin inflammation. Works as a skin conditioning agent. It enhances the appearance of dehydrated or damaged skin by reducing dry flaking and restoring suppleness to the skin. |
Green Tea Extract | Camellia sinensis
Green tea extract is high in antioxidants, is a good anti-inflammatory
agent, and has an inhibitory action on collagenase (a collagen-reducing enzyme that breaks down collagen). The topical use of green tea helps to promote the health and quantity of collagen, thereby maintaining a firm and elastic skin. Green tea extract appears to exert a sun protective effect by quenching free radicals and reducing inflammation. |
Jojoba Oil | Simmondsia chinenis
Jojoba oil has been shown to enhance skin’s barrier-repair
properties and ability to heal from damage. As a plant oil that’s a rich source of fatty acids skin recognizes and can use, jojoba oil can stimulate collagen production and help skin better defend itself against UV light damage. It can also provide topical anti-inflammatory benefits. |
Resveratrol
Resveratrol is found in nearly 70 plants, most notably in the
skin and seeds of grapes, berries, red wine, jackfruit, and pomegranate. It is used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat skin dermatitis. It contains potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory characteristics and has been shown to protect against UVB skin damage. |
Seaweed Extract | Chondrus crispus
Extract of the Irish moss seaweed contains proteins, vitamin A,
vitamin B1, iron, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, and calcium. These are beneficial for skin as emollients, anti-inflammatory agents, and antioxidants. It is also used as thickening agents and water-binding agents. |
Shea Butter | Vitellaria paradoxa
Shea butter is a plant lipid extracted from the nut of the Shea
tree that grows wild in Central Africa. Shea butter is a rich source of antioxidants, and is used as an emollient in cosmetics to protect skin from harsh environments such as cold, dry winters and hot summer sun. |
Soy Extract
Potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent for skin that is
high in isoflavones. Soy is one of many phytochemicals that are biologically active against free radicals and has a collagen-stimulating effect that influence skin thickness and elasticity. Soy extract has been shown to help reduce the effects of UVB exposure on human skin cells. |
Vitamin A | Retinyl Palmitate
Vitamin A is found in leafy green vegetables, orange and yellow
vegetables, tomato products, fruits, and some vegetable oils. It is a cell-communicating ingredient and an antioxidant which helps regenerate skin cells and accelerates tissue repair to strengthen the epidermis. |
Vitamin C | Ascorbic Acid
Vitamin C is one of the most well-researched and beneficial
vitamins you can apply topically. Ongoing use has been shown to increase collagen production (including dermal collagen, which is significant for wrinkle reduction), reduce the appearance of skin discolorations, strengthen skins barrier and repair response, reduce inflammation, and help skin better withstand exposure to sunlight. |
Zinc Oxide
Zinc Oxide is EWG’s (Environmental Working Group) first choice
for sun protection. It is stable in sunlight and can provide greater protection from UVA rays than titanium oxide or any other sunscreen chemical approved in the U.S. |
